Do students who want to become teachers already get a special offer of LGBT topics at Saxon universities ?
Each student who wants to become a teacher has to study educational science and these studies provide a huge offer of seminars with different topics. There are a lot of seminars that treat the issue of homogeneity and heterogeneity in school and even more specifically, there is a seminar in Leipzig that is called “Sex education of diversity- basic concept and perspectives“.

Sex education of diversity- basic concept and perspectives
Sex education explores and reflects the influence of education and pedagogy on the sexual socialisation and sexuality of a person. What sexuality is, how to talk about it, what practises, types of relationships and sexual cultures are appropriate and have to be imparted pedagogically- these questions determined and determine the orientation of this partial discipline. To answer these questions, the seminar will analyse the historical, socio- scientific, medical-biological, psychological perspective and the theory of power perspective. In a second part these basics will be linked to areas of activity of the sex education concerning specific phases of life and themes which will be chosen by the students. Therefor the students will discuss current results, data and ambivalences about sexuality, also with regard to the term paper. In a final step the students discuss the positions of a neo-emancipatory sex education from a power and heteronormativitily critical perspective to allow an approach to a sex education of diversity and the concept of the sexual self-determination.
Accompanying to the seminar, there is a facultative lecture „sexual education to touch- practical methods and biographic references“. This activity creates space to test, reflect and discuss professional methods of sexual education. Thematic key aspects are sexuality and language, sexuality as a lifelong process, porn and visualisation of sexuality, variegated love- and life plans. The students are also invited to discuss their own interests concerning this issue.
But not only the students in Leipzig can benefit from this topic, there also exists a seminar in Dresden called „Gender sensitive pedagogy“ which belongs to LGBT culture.
Gender sensitive pedagogy
Gender sensitive pedagogy is more and more needed in schools as well as in out-of-school, pedagogical institutions. Gender sensitive pedagogy is connected to gender researches which go back to the concept of gender mainstreaming. Meanwhile, there are many different approaches: the differential, the equality and the constructivist approach. Each one of them creates corollaries for the pedagogical thinking and acting. Questions shall be developed for school classes (a gender sensitive pedagogy), the out-of-school zone (for gender specific (socio-) pedagogical offers) and for the social zone (gender democratic participation). At the same time, it is to verify how far the development of children and young people is respected in the gender theories and which possibilities are available for participants of educational institutions to achieve a gender equitable and gender sensitive acting.
These two seminars are facultative offers at the universities and a lot of other seminars (who deal with different subjects) are offered at the same time, so that the students can choose the one they prefer. Moreover, the topics homo- and heterogeneity are often discussed but they only focus on aspects of individuality that don’t refer to sexuality. When talking about these concepts, the focus is on performances at school or migration background of pupils.
How teachers-to-be are prepared to deal with the issue of LGBT depends, except for the educational science modules, on the didactics of each subject.
